It’s that time of year! The grass is growing, the sun is trying to shine and the promise of beats and beer in a field gets the blood flowing. Add to that people hurling themselves out of aeroplanes or from the top of mountains and you have the annual Buttermere Bash Free Flyers Festival.
We have been involved with this fabulous event for a few years now and it is one of our favourite weekends of the year. The event is now in its 15th year and has become legendary in the Lakes, held at the end of May/beginning of June each year it is primarily a fundraiser and typically raises about £10,000 a year for great local charities and causes such as Air Ambulance, Mountain Rescue and environmental charities.
As well as music and beer the event is attended by some of the world’s elite paragliders, speed-flyers and base jumpers who take off from nearby summits to try and land in the middle of the festival field– aiming for a child’s paddling pool. Proof of a perfect landing is wet feet, and the prize? A pint of our finest to anyone who manages it!
Held on the shores of Buttermere it is a truly beautiful location; meeting with people from all walks of life to watch some of the world’s best paragliders show off their skills, dance into the early hours and drink Hesket Newmarket’s great ale. We are once again running the bar and if this year is half as much fun as previous years have been then we are all in for a blast, and the best bit is that we have an extra bank holiday day to enjoy it all!
You can find further details on the event Facebook page here – https://fb.me/e/1zoPjxETK?ti=icl . As of writing this post, the event is sold out!
